Large Gas lantern. Fall River, MA. Probably 1890's.

This piece was stripped, primed and re-coated in gloss black. Four new coats in all were applied to help this one hold up to severe wind and weather in Fall River. New panels were cut out of "old" matching glass to preserve the original look. Old gas and electrical fittings were replaced with a new fluorescent system to save energy. The owners wanted to leave this fixture "on" all night.   The frosted glass panels hide the modern guts....leaving the lantern energy efficient while saving the original look.
